Graviola, Paw Paw and acetogenenins containing plants

Paw Paw, graviola, guanabana, and soursop trees are close relative plants.Graviola is maybe the longest known, with a long record as an healing plant in the culture of Amazzonian tribes in brazil. Graviola has been under study for its anticancer effects and some use since the 1940's.

Like graviola and even more potently, also paw paw has shown anticancer effects. Paw Paw research was performed at Purdue College by Jerry McLaughlin. The majority of the funding (20 years and about 5 million dollars) for this research was provided by NCI. Jerry McLaughlin declared to be in the negotiation process for starting clinical trials in conjunction with Harvard University. However, no formal clinical trials have yet occurred.

So, is the use of these plants a viable option for those who are desperately seeking for an anticancer treatment?

The studies of McLaughlin, now working with Nature Sunshine who manufacture Paw Paw twig extract in capsule form, tell us that Paw Paw extract contains (among other active ingredients) annonaceous acetogenins. Click this link for a 37 page, scientific paper (not for the laymen) on Paw Paw twig extract written in 1999 entitled "Annonaceous Acetogenins: Recent Progress."

These compounds can modulate the production of ATP** in mitochondria of cancer cells. Therefore, essentially, they elicit an effect similar to that of DCA.

Energy production in cells is related to electric membrane potential of cells. By reducing this voltage level from 70 to 110 mv to something in the 50 mv region, normal cells can still function. However, cancer and viral cells cannot process energy at this low voltage level and start to starve.

The process of starving is a slower process than being poisoned, therefore we should expect that Paw Paw works slower than chemo. But possibly with less side effects also!

When Paw Paw does not work, it is usually because it is not absorbed sufficiently into the cells of the body to cause this voltage reduction.

Alternative anticancer products like Cantron and Protocel are designed to cause voltage reduction in cells. If Paw Paw does not work for a person, Cantron or Protocel may work, and obviously there is the DCA option.

In addition to the cell energy related strong rational, Paw Paw and Graviola extracts have shown effectiveness against MDR cells. As everybody surely know, most tumors contain a small percentage, approximately 2%, of multiple drug-resistant cells (MDR cells). Chemo is not effective against these cells. After the first round of chemo, if the chemo is effective, all of the cells that are not MDR, are destroyed. Since this accounts for the vast majority of the tumor mass, the tumor will appear to be effectively destroyed. However, the MDR cells remain and start to multiply. Eventually, a new tumor is formed that is entirely MDR. The next time chemo is used, none of the cells will be destroyed because they are all MDR.

Paw Paw seems to work on all types of cancers. Paw Paw is one of the few alternative cancer treatments that can pass the blood/brain barrier, therefore it could even target target brain cancers.

Dosage

As reported on a commentary site,or on the McLauglin site, Paw Paw is easy to use. You only need four capsules, evenly spaced out during the day, and taken with some food.The manufacturer's recommendation is to take 1 capsule with food four times a day at even intervals with food to avoid nausea.Some people have had success gradually increasing the Paw Paw dosage up to 16 capsules a day. They have done this very gradually in order to avoid nausea.

Discussing side effects,Paw Paw gravitates toward cells that use a lot of energy and cut off their energy supply. Since cancer cells use 10-17 times as much energy as a normal cell, Paw Paw acts on cancer cells. It is the same mechanism that made it so useful as a parasite cleanse and to kill hair lice.

It is also the reason that a pregnant woman should not take it. Paw Paw could see the baby as a high energy user.

If no cancer, parasite, or other high energy consumer cells reside in the body, Paw Paw may gravitate towards fast growing cells lining the digestive and intestinal system walls. This is why the manufacturer, Nature's Sunshine, strongly cautions against long term use for non-cancer patients.

Some people with cancer have reported digestion distress such as nausea. For this reason it is recommended to take Paw Paw with food.

One of the ways that Paw Paw works is to prevents cancer cells from feeding on glucose by reducing the ATP energy of the cells in our body. The substances in the following list increase ATP energy and should therefore be avoided when taking Paw Paw. Avoid: Vitamin C and Vitamin E supplements, Co-Q10, Thyroid Support products, 7-Keto™, Sulfhydrazly antioxidants (like L-cysteine, N-acetylsteine, Glutathione, etc.), Burdock Root, Cesium Chloride, Essiac and Flor-Essence (which is similar to Essiac with a couple of extra ingredients), Ozone treatments ( oxygen treatments such as hyperbaric oxygen are acceptable), Flax seed oil as used with the Budwig Diet (it is starting to appear that flax seed oil may be compatible, but it remains on this list as a precaution), Hydrogen peroxide, Grapefruit seed extract (due to its high vitamin C content), Whey protein because of the L-cysteine. In conclusion, the rational linking DCA, paw paw and other cancer cell energy limiting agents is very strong and to be developed. Targeting energy production and mitochondria in cancer cells could lead to strong anticancer cancer agents in a near future. I believe we should strongly support those line of research in a near future.
